SOLID: SUSTAINABLE ORAL CARE
Solid is a sustainable oral care brand on a mission to change the way people brush their teeth. Their range includes low-waste toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, dental tabs and other everyday oral care essentials – all designed to help strengthen teeth and prevent decay.
The Company was founded in 2020 by Laura Nixon, an Oral Health Therapist, who was frustrated by the amount of plastic waste in the dental industry. She set out to combine professional dental expertise with environmental responsibility, delivering oral care that benefits both people and the planet!

Plastic Free Toothpaste, better for the Environment and for you
All Solid toothpaste and oral care products are designed to minimise waste. Their toothpaste comes in returnable glass jars instead of plastic tubes, helping to put a dent in the millions of toothpaste tubes which end up in landfill each year.
Solid uses about one third of the ingredients found in most conventional toothpastes. Because they use much less water (or none at all in the toothpaste tablets) they can avoid many of the unnecessary additives and ingredients commonly found in traditional toothpaste formulas, many of which are manufactured overseas. Solid manufactures their own products locally at their lab in Porirua, Wellington.
Paste verses Tablets, which option is for you?
Solid offers both toothpaste in jars and toothpaste tablets, so customers can choose the format that best suits their routine while still reducing waste.
Toothpaste - the toothpaste in a jar works best with their stainless steel toothpaste scoop , which helps you scoop the perfect amount of toothpaste while keeping the jar hygienic. Or simply use the end of a teaspoon. They offer a range of toothpaste flavours, including spearmint, orange, strawberry, and cinnamon as well as a fresh mint option for sensitive teeth.
Toothpaste Tablets - Toothpaste tablets are great for travel, camping, tramping or for anyone who prefers a mess-free alternative to traditional toothpaste. Simply pop a tablet in your mouth, chew it into a paste, and brush as usual.

A Circular Packaging System
Commonsense customers can return empty Solid jars to any of our stores, where they’ll be collected and sent back to Solid to be washed, sanitised and reused. Toothpaste tablet jars can also be refilled in-store. As at the end of 2025 over 1000 jars have been returned to Commonsense. And Solid has already saved 150,352 toothpaste tubes from landfill!
