Management of Iconic Organic Farm
We are seeking expressions of interest to buy, lease or licence our 9.5 hectare property in Te Horo on the Kapiti Coast. The land, known as Common Property, has been BioGro certified continuously for nearly 50 years and we would love for it to continue to be farmed organically.
Common Property is currently being farmed under licence by a number of organic growers, some of whom are looking to retire in 2026. We are looking to work with the existing growers as far as possible to ensure that they are fairly treated and that any future aspirations they have for the land are taken into account.
We are keen for the organic certification of the land to be maintained by the new owners/managers. It is currently being used to grow vegetables, strawberries and seedlings commercially. There are several greenhouses and a washing/packing shed. There are 2 dwellings on the property, but currently only one is habitable.
Options for new management of the land include:
- Joining the existing growers on the land with a smaller portion of land to get started in the short term and taking on more land as growers retire or licences expire
- Waiting and taking over all of the land in 2026
- Living on the land (dwelling is currently rented separately)
We are looking for a cost recovery solution for the land and are therefore willing to consider below market rates for leasing if the purpose of the proposal aligns with our values and vision for the land.
If you are interested in submitting a proposal for the use of the land please send full details of your proposal to [email protected] including:
- your background and interest in organics;
- an outline of what you would like to do with the land;
- your ideal timeframes; and
- your contact details
The closing date for proposals is 31st May 2025.
