We now offer a weekly sensory-friendly shopping hour to support people who are on the autism spectrum, or just need a quiet time to shop.
"Commonsense has always pioneered new services for customers as part of our commitment to ethical trading. We were leaders in providing a wide range of products for people with allergies, we carry the widest variety of certified fair trade products of any food business and we work with suppliers on issues of cultural appropriation. Our sensory-friendly hour is a natural progression of our services to customers." - Anna Pitches, CEO
The sensory-friendly hour will be every Monday from 10am – 11am. During this time all Commonsense stores will have fewer lights on, the music will be turned off and staff will be advised to go about their tasks in a gentle manner and keep their voices low.
All managers have had training from Autism New Zealand to help them prepare for offering this new service.
